One of my best friends is pregnant

So weird. She's a year younger than me (she's 23). This terrifies me. I have no maternal instinct as yet. Which is another thing that worries me.

MAZELTOV!!!

They say you only get it at either 16 or 36? Just saying...

Don't worry, I had no maternal instinct until, like a month ago! None whatsoever. So it's normal. But then it could just sneak up on you, like it has me. Weird.

Apparently it's different when it's yours. I wouldn't worry.

And don't feel alone. My friend thinks I'm weird that I'd rather cuddle a puppy than a human baby. I can't help that I find puppies cuter than babies. :)

You are WAY too young to feel maternal.

Nope, at 24 you should feel like you want to travel the world and party all weekend, not look after a baby.

At least that's what I think anyway.

Some people only have their fist kid in their 30's! My mom told me she never felt maternal but when she had me it all changed.

Hun, im 28 and i dont want any babies yet - I guess when the times right and i feel ready i'll be over the moon to have a baby :)

I think you get the maternal instinct when you need to have it.

Enjoy life as it is. You know the saying "a baby changes everything"? So true. Some ways good, some not. Enjoy babyless life to its fullest, then enjoy baby.

Babies come just when you think you have life all figured out so that it gets you all screwed up again!

Then they introduce you to great things like green coconuts!

erm... you're terrified by the fact that she's pregnant and that you have no maternal instinct...?

i know everyone says don't worry about it, but i truly do wonder if there is such a thing as "maternal instinct" LOL!

Can I just say, for the record, and at the risk of being voted "most likely to have her kids taken away by the time they reach puberty..." I have three kids, and there's LOTS of times I still don't feel that maternal instinct. Mind you, I love them, and I'm a good mom. But sometimes I have to search deep down within myself to find the fulfillment and satisfaction that all the other moms on the planet seem to feel.

It's normal. Trust me. Have I ever lied to you before? hee hee.

:-)

My wife and I never wanted kids.....then once we hit 30, that all changed. Now we have 2...and it's great.

Ches: Thanks. Not.

Kitty: Yikes! Hope TSC and I both get snuck up on at the same time.

Sleepy: Yup. I have maternal instinct for kittens in bucket loads ;-)

TJF: Thanks. Good to hear!

Po: I don't think my mother's ever been particularly maternal. But she's a great mom anyway. I'm prob stressing for nothing.

Brazen: Good point.

Shania: Good plan.

Susan: Yay for green coconuts!

Angel: Hmmm... maybe you're right.

Sass: I dunno... have you ever lied to me before?

Moe: Cool beans... I have a way to go ;-)

Miss T: Thanks, lady. Also good to hear.

Blogshell: Thanks for the award! Yay!

She wanted a kid, but they weren't actively trying. I think he was a bit freaked out, but he's cool with it now. They've been married nearly two years (like me and TSC) and she feels ready. I think I'd like another three or so years of marriage first!

ahh...don't worry! i'm due in a couple months...and i STILL have no maternal instinct whatsoever! i think babies are cute from a distance, but that's it.

but when you get down to it, you get down to it. i'm sure i'll love my kiddo when i see her :)
