Question

Why are people so scathing about life blogs?

Really. I have read so many articles and blog posts recently about how boring, pointless and altogether horrible blogs about the life and times of ordinary people like yours truly are. And I have read just as many guilty posts by life bloggers apologising for the fact that they blog about themselves and what's going on in their world instead of politics, art or some other dry nonsense.

I like life blogs. Seeing I write one, you probably knew that. But there are loads of other people who like life blogs. Why? Perhaps it's because we're voyeurs who enjoy a glimpse into someone else's life. Perhaps it's because it's nice to know that other people deal with similar issues to the ones we're experiencing. Maybe it's just fun to meet new friends around the world.

To the people who dislike life blogs, I say DON'T READ THEM. It's that simple. I don't like porn blogs. Do I write rude comments and protracted articles about how pathetic they are? No. I just avoid them.

There are too many people out there who feel like they have to convince the rest of the world that their opinion is the right one. Drives me mental. More mental.

I didn't start my blog to influence world history. I started my blog because I like writing, and these days blogging is easier than journalling (I can't tell you how many journals I've lost, had stolen, spilt coffee on etc). Then people started commenting on my posts, and I discovered a whole new side to blogging - interactivity with people I would never meet otherwise. And I love it.

So I will keep writing self-involved posts like this one, and I will keep posting emails that amuse me, and LOLcats, and committing every other supposed cardinal sin of blogging. MwahahahaHAHAHA! There's nothing you can do to stop me!

Anyone care to join me?

Right. Vent officially over. Moving along...

three cheers & a standing ovation for you :) I'm definitely standing right there with you on this topic ... and I sure am glad someone got up to say it in defense for all of us that are quite happy enjoying our self-involved spot online.

And I rather like reading about the mundanities of other people's days. Not to mention it gives me real insight on what other people "out there" (more down the road than in celeb-ville) are actually doing with their days. I want to know if there's a new restaurant I should be trying and what other people thought of that movie that just opened etc. Not from an actual highfalutin reviewer, but from a real man-in-the-street person like moi!

I'm a really BIG fan of life blogging. I actually started my blog so that my Granny in the UK could keep up with Jackson's development, but it's become so much more than that for me now. I have made new friends and been exposed to so many different writers from all over the world and I feel very lucky to have that.
So, yes, I'm standig right there next to you.

Standing even, not standig. I do this all the time.

i think there is a world of difference between "life" blogs, which i have no problem with (and enjoy), and "mommy" blogs, which i think are really the ones you are referring to.

i just dont see how anyone can simply read each day about how someone did the dishes, or took little jimmy to school, etc.. theres gotta be more there for people to keep comming back..

Yes, I agree wholeheartedly, the personal blogs are the best. I love reading them too, and seeing as I like writing, I've also just started a blog and it will be about my life. Keep it up! Blogging is fun, so who cares what anyone thinks?

Amen sista!! I'm getting to the point where some of these topical blogs offend me with the comments they make. But I'll just keep on blogging!!

oh yeah! keep right on blogging dear!

life's too short to be trying to make everyone think like you - why can't those folks figure that out? just do your own thing and be happy, i say.

Great ranting and venting there. I am with you ...If you dont like a blog dont read it..if you do carry on.

Ab-so-lutely! I am 100% with you. For the love of life I have never understood why people moan about things that they are not coerced into doing. If you don't like life blogs, don't read them, simple as that.

Yay! Glad there are so many of you that are with me on this one ;-)

Hey Tamara
Just a question about the comment you left me: what is Amatomu? You said I should post my blog there? Thanks

Blogs are great, especially when you are far away from friends and family, or travelling, like me. You can write what you want and whoever wants to read it, reads it.
