They're coming to South Africa.
Why are tickets SOOOO expensive?!?

Recently discovered
- Peanut butter and chocolate bars from Tart at the Leaping Frog centre. It's like a piece of heaven in your mouth. Mmmmmm. Everything here is delicious though. It's hard to choose!
- Homemade iced tea. I use the Woolworths' Fruit Infusions Apple, Cranberry and Cinnamon Tea, which is divine hot or cold with a little bit of honey.
- WhatsApp. Yay for free messaging!
- The new, bigger-sized Bostik Clear glue (50ml instead of 25ml). I go through tubes of this stuff at a rate of knots with all the cards and crafts I make, so it's lovely to have it available in a tube that lasts a little longer!
- My 400 thread count duvet and pillow covers from Woolies. It's such a luxury to have these as they are really ridiculously expensive, but I asked for and then saved up Woolworths vouchers from my birthday last year through till Christmas to get them because we'd had our tired old bed set since we were married four years ago and they're a little threadbare. The new ones are beautiful and amazingly soft and comfy. I'm planning on asking for Woolworths vouchers again this birthday so I can get another set - I get so miserable when the nice set goes into the wash and I have to put the old ones on again. I've become spoiled ;-)
- Daphne's Dream by Plascon. The new colour of our interior walls downstairs. Pics will follow once we've finished replacing the skirtings and hanging our frames.
- My old CDs. I'm going through them to see what's worth keeping and what I'll be chucking. On the keep list so far: Delirious?; Everybody's Free to Wear Sunscreen and Plush. On the chuck list... I'm not even going there ;-)
- Jolly Orange fragrance oil from the Body Shop. Such a happy smell and I just love the name!

Happees
- It's Friday!
- I have the Jason Mraz album playing instead of Roo's usual blaring pop radio station.
- Went to a great new restaurant last night, Arzoo, serving "Incredible Punjabi Cuisine". They unfortunately don't have a website, but if you're keen to try their AMAZING chicken tikka marsala or lamb gosht badami, they're in the Bryan Park Shopping Centre and their telephone number is (011) 706 9345/6. The food is great, the lighting is... unusually and amusingly kitsch and the service is by far the best I've had in years. New favourite!
- I have finally decided what I'm going to buy with my Kalahari voucher from Angel and Glug. Thanks again, guys!
- I won tickets to Taste of Joburg from the competition on Glad to Be a Girl. How awesome?! I am so excited that I could jump up and down at my desk. Instead I'll just bounce on the exercise ball I sit on at my desk like a five-year old on a sugar high. Wheeeeeeee!
- Some of my favourite bloggers have been saying nice things about me and giving me awesome awards. Yay!
I got this pretty one from Angel and Louisa...
This one from Helen, for all the *ahem* honest scrap on this here blog thing...
And this specially-made one from Paula...
Thanks, guys! You really boosted my spirits!
I know I'm supposed to pass these all on, but I can't keep track of who's got them already, so I'm just going to dish out Paula's awesome "blog I read with my morning coffee" award to: Phillygirl (I know you don't do awards, but yours is one of the blogs I read first every morning), Slyde (I have a feeling you're also not an awards-fan, but tough) and Louisa (I smile every time I see your blog in bold in my reader).
I'm also supposed to write 10 random things about me, but I write random things every day (almost) here, so I'm going to skip that bit and just say...
Have a rad, fab, mad *insert other three-letter adjectives here* weekend, everyone!

I miss my iPod*
We have such a limited choice of radio stations (in English, my mother tongue, at least) here and I just don't understand why they must all be stocked with annoying DJs. And I'm not just talking about the music (wait, that rant is coming later in this post) - I know they don't get much of a choice in the playlists. But for goodness' sake... is it really necessary to be so irritating?
There are those who make lame toilet-humour jokes that are appropriate for kids under the age of 10 (ok, ok, ok... and me, after a few glasses of wine). Then there are others who turn every single sentence into some sort of dodgey sexual innuendo (like that freaky Brand Power lady who sounds all sultry and excited about washing powder and other such scintillating products). Some are boring (the mere sound of their droning voices puts you to sleep and you should not be tuning in while driving). Others are whiney. And there are a whole bunch who think they are way funnier than they are.
There are one or two who are not bad at all (and they are obviously the ones in the prime driving-time slots), but most of them still play the awful music that all sounds the same to me.
Call me a granny, but I like music with a beat, a tune and decent lyrics. At the moment all I seem to hear (on whatever radio station it is that the girls at the office are permanently listening to throughout the day) is high-pitched nonsense that all sounds the same. And the words! I have come to the conclusion that the best way to make a career in music is to find a phrase or even a word you really like and sing it (or shriek it in some cases) over and over and over again. At least three times.
Example 1:
You can stand under my umbrella
You can stand under my umbrella
(Ella ella, eh eh eh)
Under my umbrella
(Ella ella, eh eh eh)
Under my umbrella
(Ella ella, eh eh eh)
Under my umbrella
(Ella ella, eh eh eh, eh eh eh)
Example 2:
Why does love always feel like a battlefield, a battlefield, a battlefield
Why does love always feel like a battlefield, a battlefield, a battlefield
Better go and get your armor (get your armor), get your armor (get your armor)
I guess you better go and get your armor (get your armor), get your armor (get your armor)
I guess you better go and get your...
It's not fair
And I think you're really mean
I think you're really mean
I think you're really mean
Oh you're supposed to care
But you never make me scream
You never make me scream
Oh it's not fair
And it's really not ok
It's really not ok
It's really not ok
Oh you're supposed to care
But all you do is take
Yeah all you do is take
And who could forget that super-stupid "boom boom boom" song from the Black Eyed Peas?
Give me some good old-fashioned Counting Crows, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Simon & Garfunkel, Cold Play or U2. Hmmm... it seems only half the problem is with the daft music... I don't seem to like female musicians as much as the men. No, that can't be right, becuase there's loads of awful music by dudes on the radio... Pit Bull, Sean Kingston and Kanye West ("Paranoid" is a prime example) to name just a few.
If I had the choice I would work in silence. It's easier to concentrate. But if I was going to pick music to listen to at the office, it certainly wouldn't be the crap we have on at the moment (Something about Release Meeeeeeeee, Release my bod-eeeeeeeee. Ugh).
I reckon my project this week will be to create a mix CD for the office.
*If I say it three times in a row to a beat, I could be the next big pop star!

Song lyrics gone wrong
Well, my brother used to sing along at the top of his lungs with the lyrics, "You've already RUN me over in spite of me, I was alarmed and I fell head over heels..." he was convinced that those where the right words.
And TSC has a habit of making up his own lyrics as he sings along, seeing he can never remember the real ones. And then there was the time my mother made me turn off the radio when Counting Crow's where singing Big Yellow Taxi. They sang, "They paved paradise and put up a parking lot," and my mother thought they were saying," they paved paradise and put up a f***ing lot." What she thought that was, I have no idea.
She also took great offence at the song "Pumping on your Stereo" by Supergrass, which she thought was "humping on your stereo".
But none of those quite match up to the collection of misheard lyrics at www.kissthisguy.com, which include:
- "Let's pee in the corner. Let's pee on the spotlight," instead of "That's me in the corner, That's me in the spotlight" from R.E.M.'s Losing My Religion
- "My anus is the centre hole," instead of, "My angel is a centerfold" from Centrefold by the J Geils Band
- "The algebra has a devil for a sidekick eeeeeee," instead of, "Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me" from Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody
- "Might as well face it; you're a d*ck with a glove," instead of "Might as well face it; you're addicted to love," from Addicted to Love by Robert Palmer. The person says she thought it was a funny song about Michael Jackson
- "We built this city on the wrong damn road," instead of , "We built this city on rock and roll," from We Built this City by Starship
Got any misheard lyrics you'd like to share?

Queen and such
We went to see the show Queen, It's a Kinda Magic last night. I got media comps, a part of my job that I will miss very much!
It was AWESOME!
Ok, so the first half was completely ruined by the two twit boys in front of us who did not stop talking from the moment they walked in. Being a shorty, even if I couldn't hear them flirting from my seta, the fact that they kept leaning towards each other and obstructing my view really ticked me off. But they didn't return after the interval (probably in some dark corner of the Civic).
So the second half was distraction-free and BRILLIANT. The guy playing Freddie Mercury, Craig Pesco, has a flipping amazing voice. He's not a very good actor, though, so when he talked Freddie had a strong Irish brogue. But the band was incredible - the drummer sang WHILE he played (having played drums, I understand how much skill that requires: not only are all four limbs hitting different things at different times, but you're singing without losing the beat), and all four men were multi-talented, picking up a guitar here and playing keyboard there.
The highlight, of course, was the rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody as an encore. Beautiful!
There was also this mad couple two rows down from us who stood up and serenaded each other at the top of their lungs, arms thrashing wildly, during We are the Champions. They gave everyone around them high-fives and jumped up and down like the energiser bunny on speed. It was very cool.
All in all, I seriously recommend that all Queen fans get their bottoms (and their fat-bottomed girls) to the show ASAP.
Cheers, all. Till Monday when I have Internet again.

The jukebox in my head
No wonder I'm nuts!
An average hour in my brain sounds something like this...
All I want is a room somewhere, far away from the cold night air... Look for the bear necessities, the simple bear necessities; forget about your worries and your strife... Hot patootie, bless my soul, I really love your rock 'n roll... Aeroplane Jane, Aeroplane Jane, Aeroplane Jane's gone insane... Fruit and Veg City your fresher food store.
I reiterate... free therapy for journos!
